Skyros Village Centre
The
Skyros Village Centre, home of the Life Coaching programme and the
Writers’ Lab, nestles on the hillside at the edge of Skyros village.
Built high up long ago to evade the clutches of the Mediterranean
pirates, the village is accessible only by foot through narrow,
cobblestoned streets. The beach is a pleasant ten minute walk away.
The
Centre’s courtyard, shaded by fig and pomegranate trees, has a
panoramic view of the valley and the Aegean. Its white walls are
covered by bouganvilleas and grapevines.
In this delightful
environment people can enjoy the unalloyed beauty of Greece, engage in
joyful Greek island holiday activities and relish the company of new
and often life-long connections. Stepping back from the stress of
everyday life, they can also reach new insights, reconnect with the
source of their creativity and experience a wonderful sense of
liberation. As one participant wrote, ‘Skyros is sunshine for the soul’.
Life
at the Centre is bursting with energy. A typical day starts with yoga
on the terrace followed by the late morning workshop, the day‘s
centrepiece. One can then laze around on a long sandy beach, delight in
a massage, or just like the Greeks, take an afternoon nap which even
Churchill recommended in his memoirs!
This year the Centre is
also embarking on ‘A Taste of Greece’ programme with events ranging
from Greek music, dance and mythology to moussaka cooking or Greek
wine-tasting. Such events are a regular feature of the programme just
before dinner. Whether one goes for the island speciality,
lobster with spaghetti, or for fresh fish grilled with lemon or perhaps
stuffed tomatoes, with feta salad and Kalamata olives, dinner is almost
a spiritual experience. With the night ever young, there may well be
dancing until late or magical moonlit walks.
‘I
feel I made bonds that will last a lifetime because the friendships
were based on getting to know the real me and vice versa’.
Anne Roper, Sunday Independent
The Life Coaching Programme
We live in a world in which many old taken-for-granted realities
are disappearing. We have choices which go far beyond those of previous
generations, open up new possibilities. But we are also, potentially,
faced with new forms of stress, illness and burnout.
The Life Coaching programme is designed for people who face change or
transition and to anyone who is open to new beginnings in any aspect of
their lives. People may want to explore particular areas – perhaps
improved relationships, more fulfilling work or greater confidence to
take a path involving risks. Others may just want to take a look into
their lives and see what can happen when choice is given a chance.
The programme’s facilitators are known for their warmth and integrity
as much as for their expertise. They are there to help participants
listen to their own soul’s whispers and find their own path.
The courses, which blend with the relaxed atmosphere and the magical
qualities of the village, run for three hours a day every weekday
morning.
‘An environment that is supportive, social and, most important, a bloody good laugh’.
Jane Cornwell, The Weekend Australian
